The Deploying skills for living foundation was registered
under the CAC , March 18th,2016 after our founder identified the
need for a foundation that can empower women and girls through vocational
skills.
The need came as a result of challenges rural women and
girls face due to violence, kidnappings, gender inequality, child marriage, low income for women, low literacy amongst women, and the number of girls that
are out of school. Our belief in DSL is that acquiring of skills for women and
girls is a sure way out of poverty.
Some years after, around 2021 our Executive Director saw that
she has a passion to see as many children from underserved communities back
to school. This came as a result of the many children she sees every day that
ought to be in school but are on the streets or homes because their parents or
guardians could not afford to pay for their school fees.
This change in target population brought about a change in
the organization’s Vision and Mission Statement and also because we believe
that the former Vision and Mission does not effectively show what DSL is all
about. There was a need to make changes to our Mission and Vision.
Education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles
for sustainable development for both women and children. Our main objective is
to ensure poverty alleviation through Vocational skills and quality Education
for women and children in the underserved communities respectively.
WHY DO WE EXIST?
According to National Bureau of Statistics, we have 133 million
(63%) Nigerians living in poverty. 72% of people in the rural areas are poor in
which the most vulnerable of them are women and children. According to UNESCO,
research shows that Nigeria has 20 million out of school children. We are
committed as a team in changing these narratives.
